The Lovelocks of London
The Bed Me Books
unnamed next series
When Ardor Blooms: (prequel novella only available with newsletter subscription) steamy sexual material, coarse language.
More details:
MMC strikes his brother
Alcohol and tobacco used
Instances of coarse language include f*ck, c*ck, G*d, wh*re. Sex workers are referred to as wh*res in keeping with the parlance of the day. Please note that all instances of coarse language are period-appropriate and not anachronistic. Most curse words in the English language predate the Regency period by hundreds of years.
Sexual acts in the book include manual stimulation, oral sex, and penetrative (PIV) intercourse (mostly on the wedding night, but oral sex and manual stimulation without graphic detail occur during the betrothal)
Fertility difficulties (but no miscarriages) that resolve
death of FMC's father mentioned
Convergence of Desire: steamy sexual material, coarse language, physical and sexual assault, consensual non-monogamy.
More detail:
The physical assault and attempted rape of the FMC is by the villain and not the MMC. It is on page but is seen through the eyes of the neurodivergent FMC who is calm throughout.
FMC kills villain.
FMC is unintentionally injured by the MMC (he steps on her hand when he is drunk).
Abuse (physical and sexual) of MMC's sister by her husband implied; MMC's sister dies young while still in abusive husband's household
Coarse language includes f*ck, c*ck, c*nt, b*tch, sh*t, d*mn, G*d. Sex workers are referred to as wh*res in keeping with the parlance of the day. Please note that all instances of coarse language are period-appropriate and not anachronistic. Most curse words in the English language predate the Regency period by hundreds of years. Also please note that the FMC uses more coarse language than the MMC.
Alcohol used by MMC and FMC and other characters, laudanum (narcotic) used by MMC's sister
Steamy material: manual stimulation, oral sex, penetrative (PIV) intercourse.
Consensual non-monogamy: Here we go! The FMC has no interest in sex when she marries the MMC in a marriage-of-convenience. It is explicit in the agreement between them that there will be no kissing, no intercourse. She tells the MMC that he is to continue visiting brothels. He visits brothels (and she doesn't mind that he does) until he falls in love with his wife (well before there is any sexual contact between them). There IS an on-page sex scene (two paragraphs) between a sex worker and the MMC after he is married. Lots of readers who object to any cheating in a romance have read this book and felt comfortable with the material because of the circumstances detailed above. However, some readers have not felt comfortable. My advice? I love my book, of course, and this consensual non-monogamy is essential to the character arcs, but there are lots of great romances out there. Don't read this one if any mention of the MMC having sex outside of his relationship with the FMC (even if she has encouraged it and doesn't mind it) will upset you. Life is hard enough without reading books that might cause you pain.
Childhood sexual abuse: the MMC was taken to a brothel by an adult cousin when he was 13 and had his first experience with penetrative and oral sex with sex workers at that age. The MMC and all other characters do not perceive that experience as childhood sexual abuse, but we today would. The sexualization of the MMC at the age of 13 is part of the reason the MMC has either a sexual addiction or an unhealthy interest in sex with sex workers. Sex between the 13-year-old MMC and sex workers is NOT described in detail.
FMC is pregnant by end of the book
death of FMC's father and MMC's sister mentioned
Neurodivergent FMC with eating disorder and stimming.
